Jaguars vs Ravens live updates, idle, where to watch: Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville visit Baltimore as Joe Fagnano starts in place of Lamar Jackson on ‘Thursday Night Football’

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens open Week 9 on “Thursday Night Football,” with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Jaguars (5-2) enter with a three-game lead in the AFC South behind quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who leads the league with a 112.6 passer rating and 8.6 percent touchdown rate. Jacksonville also ran for a game-high 183 yards in its first game after the bye, with Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. sharing the load.

The Ravens (4-4) are in a much different situation. Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson landed on injured reserve this week with a thumb injury, and backup Tyler Huntley reportedly suffered a season-ending toe injury in relief of Jackson last week. That leaves undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, Baltimore’s third-string quarterback, to start Thursday’s prime-time showdown.

Help appears to be on the way, as the Ravens have reportedly agreed to trade for veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals. Brissett lost his starting job after Gardner Minshew replaced him in the second half of Week 8 and rallied Arizona past the Dallas Cowboys. He will get a fresh start in Baltimore once the deal is made official.

The Baltimore Ravens turned heads this spring when they signed undrafted free agent quarterback Diego Pavia, one of the biggest personalities in recent college football memory.

The undersized Pavia, a Heisman Trophy finalist at Vanderbilt, didn’t even make it to training camp before being waived.

However, another former UDFA QB that the Ravens signed in April was still with the organization as the preseason rolled around. He is Joe Fagnano, 25, a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, who spent seven seasons playing college football in New England.

    A few things to know:

    • It’s pronounced “Fin-YAWN-Oh”

    • He’s not in perfect health either.

    • He went through a bit of a winding road during his college year.

Learn more about Ravens quarterback Joe Fagnano, who will make his first career start Thursday night.

Lawrence, who was one of my preseason value picks for NFL MVP, has been solid to say the least. He threw 17 touchdown passes against just four interceptions, accumulating just under 1,700 yards.

Now, Lawrence faces a Baltimore defense that ranks sixth-worst against the pass and has given up 71 points in losses to Cincinnati and Buffalo. Joe Burrow and Josh Allen combined for six touchdowns through the air in those losses.

Lawrence has done that number five times in seven games, including the aforementioned matchups against Houston (four) and Indianapolis (three) in London.

My hunch is that head coach Liam Coen is going to try to put this game out of reach in the first half, which means he’ll open up the playbook for Lawrence and his receiving corps. Combining this with the fact that Tuten has ankle/foot problemsI could see Lawrence rewarding the supporters of this prop game in the first half.

The Jaguars will travel to Baltimore to face the MASH unit that makes up the Ravens’ remaining roster on Thursday night. Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley? Both in IR. Third player Joe Fagnano will start, but is suffering from an ankle injury. Baltimore is reportedly trading for Jacoby Brissett, but he won’t play this week. To put a little context on how both teams are doing, that line was Ravens -4.5 this offseason, it reopened Ravens +8 on Sunday and reached +10.

The Jaguars are just 4-3 ATS this season, but they are coming off a 42-7 loss to an undermanned Colts team. Baltimore has talent on both sides of the ball, but that’s a big ask for Fagnano — on a short week and with an injury to boot. There are Jacksonville -9.5s on the market. I’d jump on one of these or put Jacksonville in a 7-point game with the -9.5 49ers to put both under a field goal.
