Orlando Magic point guard Jalen Suggs will be out at least two weeks with a minor bone bruise in his right knee after he fell late in Sunday’s 111-102 win over the New York Knicks, the team announced Monday.
According to ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill, Suggs suffered “an apparent non-contact right knee injury” and had to be helped off the field with 2:09 left in the fourth quarter. Magic head coach Sean Sweeney reportedly “did not hear from Suggs after the game… beyond saying he would be evaluated.”
Suggs was on a quick breakaway and attempted to make a layup when his right knee appeared to buckle. He remained on the ground in pain for several minutes before being helped to his feet and walked carefully to the locker room with the help of team personnel.
Sweeney added that he spoke briefly with Suggs after the match and that the 25-year-old was in good spirits.
Suggs has been limited to just 92 games total over the past two seasons due to various injuries. Their latest setback comes after Orlando lost star forward Paolo Banchero to a low-grade ankle sprain that is expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.
With Suggs sidelined, Anthony Black will likely take over as the Magic’s starting point guard. The 22-year-old had 18 points and five assists in his season debut on Sunday.
The Magic (1-2) will continue their road trip with a clash against the Toronto Raptors (2-1) on Wednesday.
