The strategist said Trump’s alleged corruption would now be in the spotlight.
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville predicted that President Donald Trump’s life will get worse after Democrats took control of Congress in their landslide midterm victory.
“If you’re listening to me, President Trump, it’s probably not the case, but someone is. It’s going to get worse. You’re going to get even more depressed,” Carville said during a Wednesday appearance on the Political icon podcast with Al Hunt.
In the interview, Carville urged the new generation of Democratic lawmakers elected to majorities in the House and Senate to send a clear anti-corruption message, such as by banning stock trading by members of Congress. “Corruption is, for good reason, at the forefront here,” he said.

Polls conducted before the midterm elections showed that corruption in government was among voters’ top concerns, with 89 percent of respondents in a September Gallup poll saying they believed it was widespread.
Although Trump has a veto over any new legislation passed by the Democratic Congress, Carville said the party could do real damage to the president by putting the issue firmly in the spotlight.

“You can do intensive, rigorous investigations and, at the same time, pass legislation (that) may not be enacted into law. You then set an agenda,” he said.
Carville emphasized “anything they (Democrats) can do to shine a light on all the corruption that’s been going on, and I think they’re going to do that.”
Carville also said the results exposed divisions within the GOP, with Vice President JD Vance in an article published Wednesday in X appearing to criticize his boss’s election strategy and the war with Iran that proved another key factor in the Republican defeat.
“I think tensions with Vance in the White House are going to escalate, and it was a bad night for Republicans,” Carville said.
Vance is fundamentally skeptical of U.S. military intervention in the Middle East.
Carville orchestrated President Bill Clinton’s election victories in the 1990s and has long been a critic of Donald Trump.
On the eve of the midterm elections, he predicted a wipeout of the Republicans. During an appearance on MS NOW, he said he believed the economy and corruption allegations against Trump and his inner circle would decide the vote.
“I think people have linked corruption to the economy, so I want to be very clear. Corruption is a challenge, and every election is focused on the economy. That’s always been the case. But I think the issue of corruption is really at the center of the debate,” he said.
