I’ll never get tired of smoothies, and it’s not just because I’m a registered dietitian, although I love that smoothies make it easy to add more plants to meals and snacks. Besides these nutritional benefits, I love smoothies because they’re fun, customizable, and absolutely beautiful (at least most of the time).
It seems Jennifer Garner has figured it out too. In a recent Instagram post, the actress shares two dreamy smoothie recipes that meet the criteria of gorgeous, delicious and nutritious.
The post, one of many in its #PretendCookingShow series, is a call to action for viewers: It’s time to decide which smoothie should be added to the Once Upon a Farm lineup. It features Garner, as well as Once Upon a Farm founder Cassandra Curtis, whipping up the contestants.
Behind door #1 is a beetroot, cherry and banana smoothie, while competitor #2 is a pineapple, orange, guava and carrot smoothie. Garner makes the smoothies in her trusty KitchenAid blender, which she says she loves for its glass pitcher, a must-have accessory for something as pigmented as a beetroot smoothie.
The Beetroot, Cherry, and Banana Smoothie is made with lots of goodies, including orange juice, filtered water, coconut milk, cherries, beets, banana, dates, apples, lemon juice, pumpkin seeds, whey protein powder, and powdered probiotic cultures. The resulting smoothie has a gorgeous red hue that pleases both Garner and Curtis, who also claim it’s “delicious” and will be “tough to beet.” We love good culinary humor!
Next, the duo made the pineapple, orange, guava and carrot smoothie. This also started with a liquid base of orange juice, water and coconut milk. To this, the couple adds an apple, a pineapple, a guava, a carrot, a few dates, powdered probiotic culture, pumpkin seeds and lemon juice. After a quick blend, the bright yellow smoothie was ready to enjoy.
“It tastes like a tropical vacation,” says Garner. With major pineapple and guava flavor, this smoothie definitely sounds like a beach dream. “I feel like I’m in Hawaii right now,” adds Curtis.
Ready to make these smoothies and vote? We’ve got your back: after all, both smoothies provide a variety of nutrients important for good health, including fiber, protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Although we don’t have the exact recipe, Garner shares the ingredient list in his post and if you look closely you should be able to “guess” the quantities. Once you’ve done both, report back to the comments with your winner.
And if this mix gives you a smoothie boost, fear not. We have plenty of recipes to help you make something truly delicious.
