Jimmy Kimmel has a new theory about President Donald Trump.
In his opening monologue on the Thursday, Nov. 5, “Live” episode, the late-night comedian said that after many Trump-backed Republican candidates lost in the recent midterm elections, the president was preoccupied with the wrong things.
Earlier Thursday, Trump signed a proclamation to turn the Oval Office into a national monument, which Kimmel said was an effort to ensure “no future president can take back his bullshit.”
The president has made headlines in recent months for his controversial White House renovations, which focused on a gold motif.
The host, 58, played a clip of Trump signing the document, saying: “I’m going to sign a document, which will make it a landmark for the ages. It can’t be taken apart, destroyed, touched or anything else.”
“It’s true,” Kimmel joked. “His historic Diet Coke button will be preserved for many generations to come. I guess ‘Tacky-o’ really wants to make sure no one touches all the beautiful new sconces and trinkets he had spray-painted gold. He turned the Oval Office into the Liberace Museum gift shop.”
Kimmel said the move indicated that Trump was beginning to make arrangements for his departure.
“Why do this now? Why do this right after the midterms?” Kimmel continued. “Maybe he’s planning to leave early?”
Kimmel called the new Oval Office a “landmark and a slip-up” and tried to give Trump a reality check.
“Let me tell you something, buddy: January 20, 2029, we’re going to take this shit down and throw it away faster than Melania goes back to New York,” Kimmel said to cheers from the audience.
White House mocks Kimmel’s ‘peanut-sized brain’
In a statement to USA TODAY, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle had brutal remarks about Kimmel.
“Jimmy Kimmel’s case of Trump Derangement Syndrome is so advanced that it has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain,” Ingle wrote. “He’s much funnier when he’s being laughed at than when he’s being made fun of, but unfortunately his real talent lies in his bad grades. That statement took more brainpower to write than the average Jimmy Kimmel joke.”
The comments follow Kimmel’s remarks the day after the midterms, in which the comedian said the president should leave office.
“Resign. Resign already,” he said. “Stop. Nobody wants you. Even you don’t want to be president anymore.”
