The next time he “welcomes you to the broadcast booth” during a Monday night game, Joe Buck might be looking for backup.
As reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of Sports at reception“there were tensions” between longtime on-air partners Joe Buck and Troy Aikman.
This comes at a time when Buck got a new five-year deal to stay with ESPN/ABC and Aikman didn’t.
Glasspiegel says that during Monday night’s game between the Bills and Rams at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Buck “broke the ice” on the situation, sparking an argument between the two men. The situation deteriorated and there were no signs of problems during the actual broadcast.
The situation suggests that ESPN/ABC will look (if they haven’t already) to replace Aikman after the season ends. The fact that Buck got his deal done without Aikman’s done implies that Buck has no qualms about making a change after a quarter-century with the Hall of Fame quarterback.
