Joe Burrow: We found a way to win, we haven’t in recent years

The Bengals seemingly need to dig themselves into a 13-0 hole before they are ready to start playing football this season.

The Bengals spotted the Ravens leading in the first half of Week 7 before rallying for a 35-13 victory and found themselves down 13-0 in the first quarter against the Titans on Sunday. They didn’t wait until the second half to get their act together this week, but they had to struggle throughout the game before finally pulling out a 43-36 overtime victory.

Burrow and others fielded questions about their slow starts in their postgame news conferences, but Burrow was more interested in the final scores because he believes giving up wins like their last two is a sign that the team has fixed some of what has plagued them in recent years.

“We found a way to win today. We’re 5-2,” Burrow said, via a team transcript. “We’ve been losing this game for three years. It’s hard to win. You want to be good from the start, but that’s not the reality. All we can do is continue to work hard and get better. You win through wins and losses, good plays and bad plays. That’s what the NFL is about and getting better. We’ll continue to do that.”

Burrow threw three interceptions, five touchdown passes and his game-winning touchdown on Sunday. He acknowledged the need to “be better and limit those critical mistakes,” but he returned often to the theme of finding ways to win when they might have failed in the past.
