Jon Gosselin has fiercely defended his son Collin after the 22-year-old’s new memoir made shocking allegations against his mother, Kate Gosselin.
Jon said he was proud of Collin’s explosive book, “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” and shut down any claims that he was mentally ill – something Kate claimed in a comment on TikTok on Tuesday.
“First of all, I couldn’t be more proud of my son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse,” Jon told Us Weekly in a statement Thursday.
“Let me also be very clear: If you continue to falsely characterize my son Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ you will be held accountable,” he continued. “As you know, Collin was evaluated by several independent psychiatrists, and this account was found to be categorically false.”
The former reality TV star, 49, noted that repeating false allegations about Collin’s mental health “damages his reputation, his credibility and his future.”
He concluded: “Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over. »
In Collin’s memoir, released Tuesday, he describes his mother’s alleged wrongdoing throughout his childhood and her decision to place him in a mental institution in 2016. Collin claims Kate visited him only once and brutally told him, “You broke our family apart.” »
Among the shocking allegations was that she kept him locked in a “small holding cell” for two years before sending him to a mental institution when he was 12, isolating him from the rest of his siblings.
He also claims that his now-estranged mother forced her eight children — sextuplets Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel and Hannah, as well as twins Cara and Madelyn (now 25) — to act a certain way in front of the cameras while the family filmed their hit TLC show, “Jon and Kate Plus 8.”
Kate, he claims, had unreasonable expectations of them when they were young and then meted out brutal punishments as consequences.
He writes: “If we had the slightest dirt on our clothes, we would be stripped naked and punished. »
Kate, 51, hit back via TikTok following the book’s release, when she responded to a supporter who called Collin’s claims “terrible lies” and said it “should be illegal to defame someone” in her memoir.
Kate commented: “Logical or rational people or anyone who has struggled with mental illness understands what is going on here. »
Kate also “liked” a comment that Collin would “regret all of this one day” and that he was “encouraged and enabled by other dysfunctional and mentally ill people.”
Collin exclusively told Page Six on Tuesday that he is considering his legal actions against his mother regarding the alleged abuse he suffered, including filing a possible police report.
“I have reasons to do it,” Collin told us. “And that justice is very important to me, so that all children know that they absolutely have to fight and they have to really look at what was done to them and never stop fighting it.”
