A federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Trump administration seeking Harvard University’s admissions records, the Ivy League school’s latest victory in its battle against the White House.
The Ministry of Justice sued Harvard in February for allegedly failing to comply with his investigation into the school’s admissions decisions. The agency then added a similar investigation by the Department of Education to its case.
But Massachusetts District Court Judge Myong J. Jounnominated by President Joe Biden, said the Justice and Education departments could not prove they followed required procedural steps before suing Harvard over its admissions data.
“A delay and threat of prosecution, alone, do not necessarily demonstrate compliance” with the Department of Justice’s processes for working with schools to voluntarily resolve disputes over requests for information, Joun wrote.
