Ancient Manchester United Captain Roy Keane said the club was “like a circus” after defender Lisandro Martinez criticized the hierarchy.
Martinez’s comments come after Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, which extended their winless streak to five games.
The Argentina international criticized United for failing to strengthen the squad in the summer after qualifying for the Champions League, saying he expected more investment in United’s squad and “more from our technical director (Jason Wilcox)”.
Speaking on the overlap, external podcast, Keane said Martinez’s statement reflected the general state of the club.
“There will be fans who say it’s great and others who say you’re letting the team down, especially from a player who hasn’t been at his best, when the team is struggling,” Keane said.
“I think as a reflection of the club, it’s obviously chaos out there, like a bit of a circus.
“When you go through a difficult period like United, the problem I have with some players saying things is you always have to start with the man in the mirror before you start making all these comments.”
Martinez said on social media Wednesday that he spoke out of “anger and frustration.”
