“More than 7,500 people died this summer; 100,000 hectares of forests have been ravaged by fires; 100,000 hectares is ten times Paris. » In a recent column published by the newspaper Libération, a collective of high school and university students calls to join the climate march on Saturday September 26 throughout France.
In the region, this march “for the climate, the living, peace and social justice” is supported by more than fifty organizations such as the League for the Protection of Birds LPO, Fridays For Future Nancy, Greenpeace Local Group Nancy-Metz, Les Amis de la Terre Lorraine, ATAC and the Confédération paysanne. The agricultural union which defends peasant agriculture and environmentally friendly practices recalled, to unite the troops of walkers, that despite citizen mobilization against the Duplomb 2 law, it had been passed by parliament. The Peasant Confederation sees this as proof that “decision-makers are deaf and blind to the suffering of the living. »
An eco-citizen and political march
A few days before the event, more than 255 assembly points have been identified in France. The Communist Party, the Ecologists, France Insoumise and the Socialist Party announced that they would participate in these demonstrations, as did the CGT, the Solidaires Trade Union and the FSU (unitary union federation). In Lorraine, seven marches are organized. Social news and the memory of a deadly and scorching summer suggest that walkers should be there for these events which aim to make the link between climate inaction and social injustice.
Several meeting places in Lorraine
▶ Metz start of the march at 2 p.m. Place de la République.
▶ Nancy departure of the walk at 2 p.m. from Place de la Carrière. Activities are planned in the morning (setting up the community village, family workshops, solidarity canteen). In the evening, meet for a play from 5 p.m. followed by a citizens’ assembly at 6 p.m. and concerts at 7 p.m.
▶ Neufchâteau: 2 p.m. departure of the walk from the parking lot of the Pierre and Marie Curie high school.
▶ Épinal: start of the march at 2 p.m. Place Foch prefecture. The march will be followed by a citizens’ assembly at 4 p.m. at Place des Vosges.
▶ Sarrebourg: 2 p.m. departure from the Jardin de la Liberté Kiosk, avenue du Général Fayolle. Return to the community village, citizens’ assembly at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., soup kitchen.
