Mamdani: Trump approved visa for mother of murdered teenager

A call between City Hall and the White House allowed a grieving mother to enter the United States. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday he spoke with President Trump, who agreed to approve a fast-track visa process for the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, a Ghanaian teenager fatally shot Thursday while walking to school in the Bronx. New York Times reports. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person,” Mamdani posted.

Javits, a 10th grader at Dreamyard Preparatory who left Ghana last year to live with his father, was shot in the abdomen near their home and later died at St. Barnabas Hospital. The killing shook the Ghanaian enclave known as Little Accra, where a vigil was held. Police have not announced any arrests or a possible motive. Ghana’s foreign minister said his government would work with US authorities “to ensure justice is done.” A school bus worker said: “An innocent child. An honorable student who just arrived from Ghana.”
