The US Secret Service said a suspect was arrested and charged after agents found him in a vehicle near the White House with several weapons, saying he heard voices in his head telling him to kill Donald Trump.
Thursday night’s arrest occurred after Secret Service agents approached a man “acting suspiciously” in a parked car, according to a Homeland Security statement. U.S. officials said the suspect — Ronny Yorndrix Guanipa Chrinos — then described voices in his head telling him to come to the nation’s capital and kill the Republican president.
Shortly afterward, officers discovered the suspect’s vehicle had been reported stolen and that he possessed three firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition. It is the latest in a series of arrests made by the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies against individuals who have threatened the lives of Trump or members of his family since he returned to office last year.
The release described Chrinos as an immigrant from Venezuela who is in the country illegally after entering the United States through Texas in March 2024. DHS said he had been charged and was in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The White House made no comment, instead referring to DHS and the U.S. Secret Service.
