Mass shooting at Indiana University leaves at least 7 injured during homecoming weekend

At least seven people were injured early Sunday morning in a mass shooting near the Indiana University campus in Bloomington during Homecoming weekend.

Officers heard “multiple gunshots” amid a large crowd and then saw a man with a gun running from the scene around 1:30 a.m., according to Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Ryan Pedigo.

It is believed there was a fight in the crowd just before the shooting, WTHR reported.

Cops are working to find out if anyone else was injured in the chaos who has not yet been reported.

Officers arrested one person and found a gun nearby, but they are unsure if it was the shooter, Pedigo said.

Cops also found shell casings of varying calibers on the sidewalk near the scene, suggesting multiple guns were fired, the Bloomingtonian reported.

The shooting took place on Kirkwood Avenue near Grant Street — a popular party destination for students — just three blocks from the IU campus.

This weekend was homecoming for IU, and the Indiana football Hoosiers beat Minnesota in overtime earlier in the evening.
