With the Jan. 1 deadline approaching for states to implement Medicaid work requirements, some state officials are warning they won’t be ready.
Some, like Louisiana, still don’t know how to verify which low-income residents deserve to keep their health insurance because they are enrolled in school.
Others, like Missouri, have no way to automatically check who has a health problem that prevents them from workingwhich means they will have to demand medical notes or other proof from thousands of registrants.
And still others, like Colorado, say they have only been able to automatically verify the health and employment status of just over half of the adults who get insurance through Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion. This means they will have to request documents from the remaining 175,000 people.
