SEMINOLE COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV/Atlanta News First) — An election night memory card has been discovered containing uncounted ballots from Seminole County voters.
According to a statement from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, a post-election audit found “there were approximately 388 more voters recorded as having checked in at polling places on Election Day than the number of ballots reported cast.”
The release said the Secretary of State’s office detected the discrepancy and notified the Seminole County Board of Elections.
The finding could prove crucial in the as-yet-uncalled race for State House District 154, separated by a slim 58 votes in favor of Democratic challenger Harry James. With these new votes, incumbent Republican Gerald Greene takes the lead with 262 votes. The secretary of state’s office said the county has until Monday to certify the election results.
Brad Raffensperger’s office is investigating “how the memory card was left behind, whether required election procedures were followed, and what corrective actions are needed to avoid similar incidents in future elections,” according to the statement.
WCTV, Atlanta News First’s sister station in Tallahassee, contacted the Seminole County Board of Elections Friday afternoon for comment, but no one was available for comment.
