In a game filled with stars and high stakes, top-ranked Miami and Notre Dame will renew their legendary college football rivalry tonight at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
The Fighting Irish (7-1) are ranked fourth in the AP Top 25 poll, but No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Another loss could eliminate Notre Dame from the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row.
Miami (8-0) reached the CFP championship last year after slipping into the bracket against Notre Dame in the final week. The Hurricanes have the nation’s highest-scoring offense, but they will be missing star wide receiver Malachi Toney, a top target of Heisman Toney favorite quarterback Darian Mensah. he would have had ankle surgery.
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr is having a Heisman-quality season with 21 touchdowns (18 passing, three rushing), but wants a blowout victory for both his team and his legacy. In five previous games against ranked opponents, Carr had six passing touchdowns and five interceptions. In a 28-24 loss to No. 9 BYU on October 17, Carr went without a TD pass for just the second time in 21 career starts and had a career-low completion percentage of 55.1%.
