Mom’s Jaime Pressly Responds to Chuck Lorre’s Comments About His Reluctance to Hire Anna Faris

Jaime Pressly intervenes after Mom co-creator Chuck Lorre’s harsh comments about his reluctance to hire Anna Faris. “I stayed there for seven years, but there (were) eight seasons,” Pressly said E! News in an interview published on Saturday. “I came on in the second season, but I had seven wonderful years working with an incredible team and an incredible cast of women, all of us, as beautifully imperfect as our characters on the show were.” Pressly didn’t explicitly reference Lorre, but his comments about his work on the CBS sitcom came days after the executive producer shared some scathing words about his reluctance to hire Faris in an excerpt from his memoir, Situation comedywhich made the rounds at the start of the week.

Mom premiered in 2013, focusing on a single mother named Christy Plunkett (Faris) trying to restart her life and focus on sobriety, with her mother, Bonnie Plunkett (Allison Janney), also a recovering drug addict. Joined urgently Mom in the second season as Jill Kendall, a wealthy socialite who turned to Christy for help in staying sober. The show ran for eight seasons, during which critics praised Faris and Janney’s performances and storytelling. In his memoir, Lorre said he wasn’t sure Faris “would be appropriate for this kind of material”, referring to Faris’ personal life. He said his reluctance was later validated when Faris Shockingly left the show after seven seasons (Faris later described it as a “complicated time” and said she was starting to lose focus because of the “intensity” of the series. Faris, for her part, said she didn’t see Lorre’s latest comments coming and “of course it hurts.” And while Lorre might have had some gripes about the casting of Faris, Pressly looks back on that era in a very different way. “I think I really, really enjoyed being able to go to work with girlfriends every day,” she said. “All of us of a certain age, it was nice. It was refreshing.
