More than 20,000 bottles of blood pressure medication recalled nationwide

  • The blood pressure medications telmisartan and amlodipine are being recalled because they are too strong, according to the FDA.
  • Check lot numbers and expiration dates to see if your medicine is part of the recall.
  • Stop taking the affected medicines and consult your doctor; Refunds may be available at your pharmacy.

There is an active recall of blood pressure medications that were prescribed and distributed nationwide, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

The recalled drug is telmisartan and amlodipine, in doses of 40 milligrams and 5 milligrams, respectively. Both drugs were distributed in 30-count vials by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. on a prescription-only basis.

These medications are being recalled due to a “super strength drug” issue. The telmisartan content in the drugs exceeds specifications, meaning the overall composition of the drug is abnormal and it is too potent.

Lot numbers 3228113, 3228114 and 3228115, with an expiration date of October 31, 2026, are affected by this recall, as well as lot numbers 3228120 and 3228121, with an expiration date of November 30, 2026. More than 21,000 bottles in total have been recalled.

This voluntary recall has been deemed a Class III recall by the FDA, meaning that consumption of this drug is “not likely to cause adverse health consequences.”

If you take telmisartan or amlodipine, be sure to check your prescriptions to make sure your medication has not been affected by this recall. If this happens, stop taking it immediately and consult your doctor or pharmacist. You may be able to return it to your pharmacy for a refund.
