Netanyahu’s rivals consider allying with Arab parties

JERUSALEM — Israelis brace Wednesday for weeks of political uncertainty after an election that has left the prime minister in doubt. Benjamin Netanyahu of his grip on power and raised the almost unthinkable possibility that certain Jewish and Arab parties would join forces to try to overthrow him.

The final results of the elections could be known as early as Thursday evening, but no clear winner should emerge.

The Arab-led parties turned in a historic performance, but it is unclear whether other opponents of the Netanyahu’s The far-right government would form a coalition with them to obtain the majority of seats in Parliament. Issues surrounding Palestinians and their descendants remain incredibly sensitive, and Israelis are already reigniting the debate over the identity of the nation founded as a state for the Jewish people.

Wednesday, Netanyahu warned of a “dangerous government” that could include Arab parties, whose voters make up 20% of the Israeli population.
