NFL trade deadline: 4 players we want to see dealt to ideal landing spots include RBs Saquon Barkley and Jonathan Taylor

The NFL trade season is heating up and the Indianapolis Colts fire sale is keeping the league hot.

The trade deadline is November 10, but we’ve already made some notable deals this season involving the Dallas Cowboys (Joey Porter Jr.), Houston Texans (Marvin Harrison Jr.), and New York Giants (JJ McCarthy).

As rumors and buzz mount about NFL deals, Yahoo Sports’ Frank Schwab, Jay Busbee, Jori Epstein And Eric Edholm everyone weighed in on the jobs they want to see in the coming days.

Frank Schwab: The Colts are cooked and they don’t even have their 2027 first round pick due to the Sauce Gardner trade. They probably wouldn’t get a first-round pick for Jonathan Taylor, but they could get some draft capital back. And we saw Sunday night that the Seahawks have a terrific defense and an offense that needs another star.

Seattle is still a Super Bowl contender, so why not, after trading for Quenton Nelson on Tuesday afternoon, put in a few more chips for Taylor, one of the best backs in the NFL? This would add a huge boost to a team that could still be great this season and ensure Taylor doesn’t waste another season of a great career on a horrible Colts team. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Jay Busbee: It’s that time of year when contenders start combing through struggling teams, like parents digging through their kids’ Halloween candy. And while the Eagles and Chargers contain plenty of Almond Joys and apple slices, there are always a full-size Snickers bar or two available if you look closely enough. Saquon Barkley, while injured, is an attractive target for a team looking for an instant rushing attack.

One intriguing possibility: Minnesota, whose 2027 draft capital includes four picks in the first three rounds. What would Saquon look like in purple? With this Super Bowl caliber defense, it’s really good.

Jori Epstein: A year ago, wide receiver Jauan Jennings averaged six field goals per game for the San Francisco 49ers. In Minnesota, his average is 1.6. Of course, Jennings’ value goes beyond his production with his blocking and physicality in the running game. His energy and bully mentality have historically balanced attacks with carefree players. But the Vikings aren’t getting value from his one-year contract worth up to $8 million, including $6.13 million guaranteed. So why not call the 49ers, who already regained defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on Tuesday?

The Niners replaced Jennings and other former receivers with rookie De’Zhaun Stribling in the draft and veteran Mike Evans in free agency. Thanks to injuries, neither are currently available. Injuries are a constant scourge in San Francisco; they’re almost a feature of Kyle Shanahan’s build rather than a bug. (I’m not saying anyone craves injuries, but some teams have a higher risk tolerance when working with their teams in practice.)

So San Francisco needs some insurance and should forget any hard feelings knowing Jennings can shoulder some of the load if necessary. In return, Minnesota should get back a Day 3 pick and some salary cap space to contribute to an offensive complement that will help spark its 29th-ranked offense. No, 6-0 teams generally don’t ship players. But consider this shift in assets, with Minnesota using capital to acquire a player the club will use better.

Eric Edholm: With DeForest Buckner heading to the 49ers, how about another fun reunion? Bears fans would be thrilled with a Khalil Mack cover. Chicago’s pass rush could use a boost, and the Bears figure to be looking for help.

I think a fourth or fifth round pick in 2027 could accomplish that, given Mack’s age (35) and his contract expiration.
