Nier: Latest Automata update increases game size from 50GB to 366GB

An update increased the file size of Nier: Automata to 366 GB on Steam.

This is apparently due to a bug that added the size of the entire game file to the file size of each DLC. When stacked, that means you’ll need 366GB of space to install the full game and its add-ons, although that’ll only be around 50GB before the update releases.

Although initially suspected to be a typo on Steam (3,042 articles)” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/pc/steam/”>Steam, RPG Site has since tested this and indeed found that Nier: Automata now requires 366 GB of space. It is likely that the bug will be fixed in a patch soon, so it is worth waiting before installing Nier: Automata or the new update. It’s also a handy reminder to turn off automatic updates on Steam if you can’t go back at the moment.

Some are reporting that the issue is resolved on their end, but others are still seeing bloated file sizes when they install the game or new update. The store page still states that you only need 50 GB of space to install the game. It only appears that you will be asked for the extra space when you attempt to install it after purchase.

Oddly enough, the update that caused this issue didn’t even add much to the game, instead adding support for three new languages (Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese).

Unsurprisingly, the game is receiving negative reviews, apparently from those who can’t play the game now that it wants to eat up so much space on their PC. As of now, neither Square Enix (1,097 articles)” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/square-enix/”>Square Enix nor PlatinumGames (369 articles)” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/platinumgames/”>Platinum Games have acknowledged the error, so it’s unclear when a fix will be rolled out everywhere.
