Bill van Zyll, vice president and general manager of Nintendo in Latin America, spoke more about physical media and confirmed that there are no plans to abandon this format.
Many know at this point that there has been a shift from physical to digital titles. Additionally, PlayStation will soon abandon physical games altogether. This led to a lot of discussion about the future. Fortunately, on Nintendo’s side, no significant changes are planned.
Zyll said in an interview with Coelho that Nintendo has no plans to abandon physical releases. He also recognized that fans were very interested in this format.
His full words are as follows:
“Historically we’ve been very agnostic, right? We go by what the consumer prefers and take that into account very heavily. We also have a platform that just launched. We’re just over a year after NS2. It has both digital and physical capabilities. There are no plans to abandon the physical. We know how much the fans love it too, so our stance has been to be agnostic.”
On Nintendo Switch 2, physical cards come in two forms: full cartridge and game key cards. The latter has not been very successful with passionate collectors. That said, we heard that gaming key card sales increased 631% in the United Statesthey are therefore not ignored.
The games distributed by Nintendo are largely real physical titles. However, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity ā Definitive Edition will be a key map in the game.
