No.3 in Fifa, Frenchman Kevin Lamour leaves his post after opposing Gianni Infantino

Fifa’s French No.3 Kevin Lamour, who disavowed his boss Gianni Infantino’s plan to open up to private investors, which was ultimately abandoned, has left his position, a spokesperson for the world football body announced on Monday, August 17.

“Fifa can confirm that the collaboration between Fifa and Kevin Lamour, in his capacity as general director of operations of Fifa, ended on August 17, 2026,” indicated a representative interviewed by AFP after the disclosure of the information by The Athletic.

“Fifa thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him good luck for the future. No further comments will be made on this matter,” he added.

Formerly employed by UEFA, the manager has held the role of general director of operations since November 2024, from where he oversaw key administrative sectors, such as legal, communications and personnel.

Lamour denounced the “contempt and intimidation”

He was one of the highest-ranking voices to criticize Gianni Infantino’s plan to open Fifa to private investors which, despite its abandonment since, continues to fracture the football world, against a backdrop of debate around the governance of Italo-Switzerland, candidate for re-election in March 2027.

“It is the project of a single person (…) Not only should this project not see the light of day… but the time has now come for the leaders of the world of football to ask the right questions and make the right decisions,” wrote Kevin Lamour in a press release sent to the AP press agency and published on July 31.

Fifa employees “deserve better than contempt and intimidation,” he insisted. “If this means I lose my job, so be it (…) I will understand and respect this decision. At least I will sleep well tonight.”

Kevin Lamour was not the only Fifa executive to have dissociated himself from Gianni Infantino: former coach Arsène Wenger and general secretary Mattias Grafström, considered the No. 2 of Fifa, both welcomed the abandonment of the project carried by their boss.
