After heating up emergency rooms since 1994, Noah Wyle was officially named Sexiest Man Alive for the first time.
In his Interview with people for the award, “The Pitt” star said he was in disbelief when he heard the news. “I thought it seemed like a prank — but not in a million years would I have thought that would be an honor bestowed upon me,” Wyle said.
He added: “I hope this changes everything. I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from now on. (Laughter) No, I don’t, but I will definitely take a lot of criticism from friends and family.
Wyle was first introduced to television audiences as medical student and doctor John Carter on NBC’s “ER” alongside stars like George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Sherry Stringfield and Julianna Margulies. Although he never won, Wyle earned three Golden Globe nominations and five Emmy nominations over the course of the series. Last January, at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, Clooney joked that the organization should do a “sexiest man alive” number, saying he would “nominate Noah Wyle as the leading man… When I grow up, I want to be Noah Wyle.”
16 years after the series finale aired in 2009, Wyle found himself back in a hospital playing disgruntled attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on HBO’s “The Pitt.” His portrayal of the doctor in the series’ two seasons earned him a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television and Drama Series in 2026, as well as consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series in 2025 and 2026. Season 3 of the hit medical drama is scheduled to premiere in January 2027.
Launched in 1985 by Mel Gibson, the Sexiest Man Alive competition is celebrating its 41st edition. Wyle succeeds “Wicked” star Jonathan Bailey, who was named Sexiest Man Alive in 2025 and was the first openly gay man to receive the title. He joins past winners including Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend and Idris Elba.
