One person died and several others were injured in an incident involving a Six Flags roller coaster Monday afternoon in Georgia, according to police.
The incident took place at Six Flags Over Georgia, about 15 miles northwest of Atlanta, according to Cobb County police.
Authorities have not confirmed how the person died or what caused the others’ injuries. However, several media outlets reported that a person fell from the park’s Goliath roller coaster, citing unnamed eyewitnesses and local officials.
The roller coaster, which was introduced to the park in 2006, has a top speed of 70 mph (110 km/h) and a drop of 175 feet.
A Six Flags spokesperson said the park and local authorities responded immediately and are fully cooperating with local authorities in the investigation of the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred today at our park,” the spokesperson said.
Late last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California announced it was removing its popular X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain damage caused by the attraction. Six Flags recently settled a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding a roller coaster in 2022, and three other lawsuits alleging head injuries were filed in the past week.
