On paper, Abdulrahman Alfozan seemed like an ideal candidate for one of the most coveted artificial intelligence jobs in Silicon Valley.
The Saudi national attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and landed a job as an engineer at Meta, according to his LinkedIn page and online records. Alfozan then obtained a green card, spoke enthusiastically in a podcast about his career in Silicon Valley, and was invited to speak at Stanford University, while working as a part-time partner in a venture capital fund dedicated to expanding the Middle East’s tech ecosystem. He had lived in the United States for over a decade when he landed a mid-level role at OpenAI last year.
