Oscar-nominated actress Barbara Barrie dies with medical assistance at 95

Oscar-nominated actress Barbara Barrie died at her home in New York with medical assistance.

She was 95 years old.

Her agent, Gary Gersh, confirmed to NBC News in a statement Thursday that Barrie’s death was “medically assisted in accordance with New York State’s medically assisted dying law, of which she was a supporter and advocate.”

The law took effect Aug. 5 and allows terminally ill adults with less than six months to live to obtain a self-administered prescription drug to end their lives.

Barrie’s daughter, Jane Harnick, told The New York Times that her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died Wednesday. According to the Times, she also lived with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a type of interstitial lung disease that causes breathing problems, fatigue and weight loss.

“I have a very full and active life, but what lies ahead of me is unknown and yet known at the same time,” Barrie told Playbill in a 2014 interview about his lung disease diagnosis. “I’m living life full steam ahead and now I’m trying to help other people do the same. »
