The Green Bay Packers will officially be without running back Chris Brooks (and wide receiver Savion Williams) against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, according to the Packers’ latest injury report of the week. Brooks left Week 4 with an ankle injury and did not participate in three practices this week. The team has already moved running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster, so it’s almost certain Green Bay will enter their divisional matchup with MarShawn Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson and Strong as their three-man backfield.
Two players were also listed as questionable for the game, meaning there’s a good chance they’ll miss Sunday’s action: left guard Aaron Banks (knee/toe) and offensive lineman Jacob Monk (quadriceps). Banks and Monk were non-participants Wednesday and Thursday, but were limited participants for Friday’s practice. Fortunately, the Packers have 11 offensive linemen on the 53-man roster, so they can afford to cut three players at that position and would still have an eight-man unit going into games.
Players listed as questionable and true are offensive lineman Jager Burton (back), defensive lineman Anthony Campbell (ankle) and defensive lineman Javon Hargrave (toe). Burton and Campbell were limited participants in practice for most of the week (Burton was only a non-participant on Wednesday), while Hargrave was a full participant until Friday, when he appeared on the injury report and was listed as a limited participant.
Like the offensive line, the defensive line is “oversigned” as the team has seven on the 53-man roster, while the team typically keeps five players on the 48-man roster per day. Given that Strong and Kristian Welch (replacing Edgerrin Cooper at linebacker) have already been signed off the practice squad, don’t expect the team to make any moves before kickoff.
On the Bears side, the most notable news was that quarterback Caleb Williams went from non-participant (hamstring) on Thursday to a limited participant on Friday and was given questionable status heading into Week 5. Linebacker Keyshaun Eliott (quadriceps) and running back Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) are ruled out. Beyond Williams, three other Chicago players are questionable: cornerback Kyler Gordon (calf), linebacker Noah Sewell (Achilles) and defensive lineman Shemar Turner (knee) – all of whom are on the Bears’ injured list but have had their practice windows opened.
