Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson’s daughter, has gone to court to force the executor of her father’s will to distribute $600 million to a family trust for her and her two brothers, accusing the estate’s managers of incompetence and financial mismanagement.
The petition, filed October 29 in a Los Angeles state court, comes solely from Paris Jackson, 28. His brothers, Prince Jackson, 29, and Bigi Jackson, 24, are not named.
The 14-page document claims that more than 17 years after their father’s death, the family trust remains unfunded. The filing was filed more than six months after “Michael,” the controversial biopic about the artist’s life and early career, was released in theaters around the world, grossing more than $1 billion at the global box office.
Michael, according to the petition, requested that each child should begin receiving income from their respective trust shares at the age of 21. An additional amount would be distributed at age 30, and again at age 40. The petition did not clearly state how much each child was supposed to receive when they turn 21.
The estate said more than $200 million has already been distributed to benefit Paris Jackson and other beneficiaries.
According to the motion, the executor has taken no action and is asking the court to order a “reasonable and partial distribution” to the family trust. After Michael Jackson died at age 50 in 2009, a court named John Branca and John McClain as co-executors of the estate. McClain died in May.
