Patriots place Roméo Doubs on injured reserve amid series of moves

The New England Patriots will be without Roméo Doubs for at least four games.

The organization placed the veteran wide receiver on injured reserve amid a series of trades announced Monday afternoon.

The 26-year-old Doubs injured his shoulder while scoring a 42-yard touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday’s 26-19 AFC East victory at Gillette Stadium and was downgraded from questionable to eliminated. The March signing includes 14 receptions for 261 yards and three visits to the end zone this fall for an active depth chart that advances with AJ Brown, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams. After handling 246 offensive snaps in six games, including two starts, he joins fellow veteran Mack Hollins on injured reserve and won’t be eligible to return until late November.

Entering the NFL in the fourth round of the 2022 draft at No. 132 overall out of Nevada, Doubs spent the previous four campaigns with the Green Bay Packers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout’s career spans 216 catches for 2,685 yards and 24 touchdowns in 65 appearances.

Taking the open spot on Foxborough’s 53-man roster, safety Elliott Davison was promoted from the practice squad after twice serving as a standard elevation for matchups against the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.

Davison, 24, was expected to return Monday. The 6-foot, 190-pound safety recorded two tackles and a pass deflection in his consecutive call-ups while playing 10 snaps on defense and 37 snaps on special teams. Signed to the Patriots’ practice squad in September before being released and re-signed, Davison initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2025. The former UTSA defensive back spent the duration of his rookie year on the New Orleans Saints practice squad.

New England also officially signed wide receiver Ryan Miller, center Jacob Rizy and guard Andrew Rupcich to the practice squad on Monday. The club released cornerback D’Shawn Jamison to make room on the 17-man roster.

Miller, 26, went undrafted by Furman in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 217-pounder spent three seasons between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 53-man roster and practice squad before being claimed off waivers by the New York Giants last December. Assigned to the Miami Dolphins midway through training camp and released last week, Miller played in 30 NFL games, including six starts, while totaling 17 receptions for 254 yards and four touchdowns. He scored his most recent touchdown in September from 77 yards.

Rizy, 24, began 2026 on New England’s practice squad after coming in as part of the organization’s undrafted class in May. The 6-foot-5, 306-pound rookie free agent played 155 snaps at center in three preseason games and was waived before the league’s 53-man roster deadline. A former second-team and first-team All-Ivy League selection, Rizy spent three years at Harvard and two years at Florida State. The 27-game starter logged time at center, left guard, right guard and right tackle during his collegiate run.

Rupcich, 27, was waived by the Patriots on an injury settlement in August after returning to injured reserve. The 6-foot-6, 325-pound Culver-Stockton senior now returns to an offensive line that saw three starters in Ben Brown, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Morgan Moses ruled out Sunday. Rupcich first joined New England’s practice squad last September and was picked up on a futures contract in February. He entered the NFL with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and appeared in 12 games in the AFC South, earning two starts.

Jamison, 27, worked out and joined the Patriots’ practice squad last week before becoming a matchup amid attrition. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound cornerback went undrafted out of Texas in 2023 and made his first NFL stops with the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent the first month of the 2026 season on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. Jamison appeared in 18 games while seeing 107 snaps on defense and 166 snaps on special teams. His career includes 10 tackles, one pass deflection and one start.

The Chicago Bears host head coach Mike Vrabel’s 4-2 team at Soldier Field on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
