Isaias leaves more than a million residents without power as cleanup begins

Communities are beginning to assess the damage caused by a powerful hurricane that ravaged the region, leaving damaged homes, flooded roads and debris-strewn neighborhoods.
Photos taken in some of the hardest-hit areas show the scale of the destruction as residents and emergency crews begin the long process of cleaning and rebuilding.
HOW THE SEVERE CATEGORY 2 STORM UNFOLDED ACROSS FLORIDA AND THE GULF COAST

Isaias impacted the Florida Panhandle near Destin on Friday, October 9, as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, bringing destructive winds, dangerous storm surge and widespread flooding.
The hurricane tore roofs off buildings, uprooted trees and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of customers in Florida and Alabama before moving inland.

Isaias was the first hurricane to make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast since Hurricane Milton hit Florida in October 2024, almost two years earlier.
The storm also became the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, ending an unusually quiet period in which no hurricanes developed until October.
