THE Pumpkaboo’s sweet surprises The event runs from October 17 to November 1, adding two Gen 6 Ghost types to Pokémon Pokopia.

For those who have played Pokopia’s previous limited-time events, the format will be familiar: a new Pokémon, Pumpkaboo, visits a Pokémon Center and asks for currency (Pumpkin Candy) in exchange for items that can help create a few new habitats. But in a scary twist, this time you have to scare event currency with your resident Pokémon.

This Pokémon Pokopia guide explains how to start Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event, how to get Pumpkin Candy, and how to find the Pumpkaboo Gourgeist evolution by creating its habitat.

How to start Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event

First, you must have rebuilt a Pokémon Center and be playing between October 17 and November 1. Second, you must have learned the Camouflage transformation from Zorua in Bleak Beach.

As with the recent spate of live events, even if you couldn’t make it to this event in advance, it’s now live and you’re free to time travel. back if you missed it.

When you log in on the dates above, Pumpkaboo will appear outside the Withering Wastes Pokémon Center and ask for Pumpkin Candy. Collect a few of them – the next section explains how – then trade them at a Pokémon Center for various spooky event-exclusive items, which can in turn be used to build two habitats for Pumpkaboo and the Gourgeist evolution.

How to Get Pumpkin Candy

To get pumpkin candy, you have to scare the Pokémon using camouflage to transform into one of their favorite objectsthen transform yourself again to surprise them.

At first this seems like quite a daunting task without knowing each Pokémon’s favorite items, but the trick to achieving this is to visit their habitat and camouflage themselves as furniture or toys (not a basic or similar environmental item).

Now stand in their field of vision and they will comment on the object in a bubble. Then all you have to do is transform to surprise them and receive the pumpkin candy.

Some other things we observed about the process:

  • It doesn’t have to be that Pokémon’s favorite, just something it likes, so there’s a good chance that as you explore the disguised item, other Pokémon will notice it as well, allowing you to scare them as well (albeit one at a time).
    • As such, it’s worth doing in an environment with a dense number of Pokémon living together, making collecting Pumpkin Candy much faster.
  • If the Pokémon you want to scare is talking to another Pokémon, it won’t notice you.
  • The Pokémon must respond with a speech bubble naming the item you transformed – otherwise it won’t be scared when you return.
  • Despite Pumpkaboo’s initial warning that you can’t scare the same Pokémon again right away, I found the cooldown to be quite generous. For example, I managed to get back there in about eight minutes for another dose of Candy.
  • You receive one to three candies per scare – meaning that in theory you only need to do a few scares to get all the event items.
