Hilary Swank reflected on double standards and societal backlash while addressing her recently announced pregnancy at age 52.
“There’s a lot of backlash among women who have older children, but not among men, which is interesting,” she told Drew Barrymore in a clip from an upcoming interview, airing Oct. 20.
Barrymore — who is a mother of two — responded that the double standard is “weird,” noting that “men are having babies in the ’80s, and that’s not a euphemism or a joke.”
She added: “You had kids in your 40s and people weren’t always kind about it. »
The “Million Dollar Baby” star – who welcomed twins Aya and Ohm in 2023 at the age of 48 with husband Philip Schneider – recalled a woman telling her: “How dare you? You’re too old.”
Swank noted that the woman told her that her father was her “favorite person” and that he had died when she was in her 20s, calling the experience “devastation.”
Rather than being offended, the two-time Oscar winner tried to identify with the woman’s position.
“I realized it because my father (is) also deceased, but he was one of my favorite people on earth,” she explained.
“I thought, ‘Well, I’d rather be born and have this person who was my favorite person and experience that than not at all,'” she said.
Swank announced Wednesday via Instagram that she is preparing to welcome her third child with Schneider.
In the music video, Swank, Schneider and their twins danced in what appeared to be glow sticks stuck to their outfits with the lights turned off.
Swank proudly flaunted her baby bump, complete with a glowing “baby stick” as she danced with her family.
“A lot of people ask me what project I’m doing next, this one is coming out in December. 😉👼🏼🫶🏼,” she captioned the announcement.
She was then spotted arriving at Barrymore’s eponymous talk show in New York on Thursday, flaunting her bare baby bump.
