Prince Harry explains England’s decision, wanting to reconcile with William

Prince Harry says he wants to make peace with his father and brother.

Speaking in his first major interview since returning to the UK with his family earlier this summer, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his complicated and fractured relationship with King Charles and Prince William, saying he wanted to resolve the high-profile family dispute.

“Some people don’t want it to work. I want it to work. With everything going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile, that’s the key point,” he told GQ. “The scars stay forever. But what is your perception and what is your mindset about the things that happened, letting go of the past. That’s something I encourage everyone to do: If there are certain things from the past that still affect you every day, it’s harder to let go of them. But, for me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue to have problems with the family.”

Harry raised eyebrows in August when it was revealed he was returning to the UK alongside his wife Meghan Markle and their two children after six years living in California. Unsurprisingly, many rumors spread about why they were abandoning life in the United States and returning home after their famous “Megxit” in 2020.

Speaking about his return to England and his relationship with the country after several tumultuous years spent dealing with the press (with whom he had several legal battles), Harry said his “attitude” had changed.

“I think once you experience it, once you can talk about it and raise awareness, people see it for what it is, it makes the environment a little easier. It’s not necessarily going to stop the behavior, but I think the behavior might – I hope it will – change,” he said.

“What happened then was the same. What has happened over the last six years is just a continuation of that. Some battles have been fought, and necessarily so. With everything going on in the world, there are aspects of the past that all of us, me, my family and some members of the British press, would all like to leave behind and work for the common good.”

Harry, who in recent years published a best-selling memoir detailing his difficult family relationships and fronted a Netflix documentary series that did the same, also told GQ that he was “really criticized” for telling his story.

“I find it fascinating because everyone is allowed to tell their side of my story, but God forbid I should be able to tell the other side of the situation.”
