Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly informed of a letter sent to police in 2019 – which was later passed to Meghan Markle – containing allegations of child sexual abuse against the Duchess of Sussex’s father, Thomas Markle Sr.
A source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail on Thursday that it was “unthinkable” that the royal household was not informed of the letter, which sources previously told Page Six was written by Thomas Sr.’s late ex-wife, Roslyn Loveless.
The insider also told the outlet that Meghan, 45, and her husband Prince Harry, 42, would not have received the letter “in isolation.”
“It was the duty of the police to make these allegations known to the Palace, and they will have done so,” the source said.
Page Six reached out to representatives for William and Kate, both 44, for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
As previously reported, Thomas Sr., 82, is currently under investigation by the Cebu City Police Office in the Philippines after “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sexual abuse images were allegedly discovered in his home by his son, Thomas Markle Jr.
Thomas Jr., 60, allegedly found the images in several boxes stored among family “memorabilia,” telling The Sun last week: “When I found this material, I was horrified and had no choice but to report my father. »
In a statement later shared with Page Six, Meghan said she was “deeply distressed” by the news, revealing that she had received a letter in 2018 containing similar “disturbing and disturbing” allegations against her father, which she said contributed to their estrangement.
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed on Saturday that the letter was passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in January 2019, but had not been passed on to any other law enforcement agency.
Thomas Sr., for his part, vehemently denied the allegations against him, calling them “sick lies” and telling the Daily Mail: “I’m shocked, I’m hurt and I’m very upset that my son is making these accusations against me.
“I could never do what I’m accused of. It’s the worst thing I can be accused of,” he continued. “It’s bullshit. It’s just a bunch of lies. It’s sick. I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies.”
Since then, other elements of child sexual abuse have reportedly been discovered by Daily Mail journalists in a warehouse rented by Thomas Sr. near his former home in Mexico.
The material, which allegedly included books about pedophilia and magazines depicting child sexual abuse, was reported to the FBI.
Meanwhile, royal reporter Andrea Caamano exclusively told Page Six on Wednesday that she didn’t “expect the royal family to be involved in this situation.”
“Despite Harry and Meghan’s return to the United Kingdom, relations remain complicated and I do not see the Palace wanting to get involved in matters concerning Meghan’s father,” she added.
