Prince William has ‘no intention of engaging with Prince Harry’ in call for reconciliation

Prince William has no plans to become involved with his brother Prince Harry, it has been reported, which could damage a reconciliation between the estranged siblings.

The Duke of Sussex said in an interview with GQ this week, his return to the UK, with wife Meghan Markle and children Lilibet and Archie, was partly motivated by a desire to be “closer” to his family – and the hope of “resolving” the issues behind the breakup.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales, committed to his public role, sees no scenario in the future where he would reconcile with his brother, sources close to the heir told the Mirror.

A source close to Prince William told the newspaper that he remains deeply hurt by the “many things” the Duke of Sussex has said publicly about him and other members of his family.

Referring to the time of GQ publication of the interview, the Mirror reported that the Prince of Wales was concerned about royal commitments, which took precedence over keeping Harry away.

The King and Queen hosted the Sultan of Oman for a state visit and Prince William traveled to Wales to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan tragedy with his father.

The brothers have remained estranged since the Duke of Sussex abandoned his role as a working royal to live in California with his wife in 2020. The Duke claimed in his memoir Spare that William threw him to the ground in a dog bowl in a row because of Meghan’s alleged behavior.

Prince Harry has remained in communication with the king, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.

Talk to GQHarry expressed his hope to repair his relationship with his family: “Some people don’t want it to work. I want it to work.”

He added that “scars stay forever,” but added that he would encourage everyone to let go of the past.

“If there are certain things from the past that still affect our daily lives, it’s harder to get rid of them,” he said.

Asked if he was “distressing” the relationships he had with his father and brother, Harry said: “Yes, of course. Again I think from a family perspective: another extremely relevant issue for so many people.

“There are disagreements between siblings, broken relationships between children and their parents, between children and a parent.

“It keeps coming to my mind all the time from people I talk to. So I know how relevant it is.”

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said it had been GQ choice to publish the interview, which takes place in September, on Tuesday, and Harry’s comments were “absolutely not intended to attack his brother or any other member of his family. The comment was made in a general context and was in no way directed at his family.”
