Protest blocks roads in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood

A protest took to the streets of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The Seattle Police Department reported it was cordoning off roads around the neighborhood as protesters marched from Cal Anderson Park to Broadway. Authorities reported several instances of property damage, graffiti and “other reported crimes.”

Officers made one arrest for theft, but no arrests were made for property damage.

Local perspective:

Around 2 p.m., protesters left the street and headed toward the Seattle Central College campus. Police reported the event ended around 2:10 p.m.

Protesters could be seen waving Palestinian flags and chanting in support of Palestine on Wednesday, marking the third anniversary of the October 7 attack on Israel that sparked the war between Israel and Hamas.

Organizers said they were revisiting three years of genocide and a year of “fake ceasefire” in the Middle East, while drawing attention to the ongoing war between the United States and Iran.
