Quentin Tarantino and Ellen DeGeneres had an awkward moment on Graham Norton’s couch on Friday, November 16, when the filmmaker criticized the actor for never inviting him on his old chat show.
After DeGeneres and fellow guest Colin Farrell reminisced about the many times the Irish actor had appeared on DeGeneres’ eponymous talk show, Norton asked Tarantino if he had ever made an appearance.
“I was never asked,” Tarantino said.
“I don’t know why,” DeGeneres responded.
Tarantino added that he “didn’t mean it like that” but had “always hoped to be on your show.”
DeGeneres suggested that “there are producers who bring you people” when you host a chat show, but that she doesn’t know why Tarantino was apparently never invited.
“Well, I’m so happy that we’re meeting now,” she added. “I don’t know why you wouldn’t have been.”
Jokingly, DeGeneres added, “Let’s look at that. Now I’m angry.”

On X, some viewers called the interaction eerily similar to a notorious encounter between DeGeneres and actor Dakota Johnson on a November 2019 episode of DeGeneres’ chat show. In it, DeGeneres claimed that she was not invited to Johnson’s recent birthday party, only for Johnson to tell her, “That’s not the truth, Ellen,” and that it was DeGeneres who appeared to snub an invitation sent out.
The moment immediately went viral, immortalizing itself as a staple Internet meme, and — following allegations in 2020 that DeGeneres had presided over a “toxic work environment” on her show — was seen as a pivotal moment in the decline of DeGeneres’ reputation. DeGeneres’ show ran for 19 seasons before ending in 2022.
After the first complaints of misconduct at work at Helene the show was reported by Buzzfeed In 2021, WarnerMedia launched an investigation into these allegations. The investigation resulted in the firing of three of the show’s producers, and DeGeneres apologized to former staff. Discussing the scandal in 2021, DeGeneres expressed her confusion about the whole thing.
“I really didn’t understand,” she told the Today show in the United States. “I still don’t understand. It was too orchestrated. It was too coordinated. You know, people get harassed, but for four months straight for me. And then for me to read in the press about a ‘toxic work environment’? When all I’ve heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere it is and what a happy place it is?”

In 2024, DeGeneres announced that she planned to step away from the spotlight following the completion of what she dubbed her final stand-up tour, titled Ellen’s last fight….
However, DeGeneres – who didn’t usually promote a project when appearing on The Graham Norton Show – told the presenter that she now misses working on television and would like to work in Great Britain, where she has lived since 2024.
“I really have nothing to do and I really miss being on TV,” she said. “I miss it a lot – laughing with the writers and the audience. I’m thinking about doing stuff here.”
She jokingly added: “I think it’s quite easy to get on TV here – you have a pottery show, you have a sewing show, and you even have a show about people watching TV shows! »
DeGeneres and her wife, former actress Portia de Rossi, have decided to make their Cotswolds home their permanent base following Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election.
“We got here the day before the election and we woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He’s in,’” she said. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’
Earlier this year, she told broadcaster Richard Bacon everything she and De Rossi love about the UK.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages, the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life. It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way the animals are treated, the people are polite. I love it here.”
