Real Madrid demand resignation of Javier Tebas following Joseph Goebbels comparison

Real Madrid have called for the “immediate resignation” of La Liga president Javier Tebas after drawing comparisons between the club’s management and Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels.

Tebas said Real Madrid’s communication and use of its internal television channel “is reminiscent of the propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels.”

Real Madrid called the statement “deeply offensive” and “morally repugnant.”

The club also demanded that Tebas resign as head of the Spanish top flight and vice-president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

“Real Madrid considers it absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious that a person occupying two positions of high responsibility in Spanish football would resort to comparison with the propaganda methods of the Nazi regime to discredit our club, its management and its television,” the club said.

In a lengthy article published on Friday on

“Their score is always the same: select the games that suit them, repeat the grievance, fuel the suspicion and point the finger at the enemies.

“This method recalls the propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, the propaganda minister of Nazi Germany: systematic repetition, construction of an enemy and subordination of facts to the story.”

Tebas later said he was making a comparison with “these propaganda techniques” and “not with an ideology.”

Real Madrid rejected this clarification, considering that it did not mitigate the “unworthy institutional character of its statements”.

“These statements constitute a new episode of Javier Tebas’ repeated attacks against Real Madrid, its president and its media,” adds the club.

Last month, Tebas criticized Real Madrid for claiming there was a refereeing conspiracy against the club.

He has also criticized Real and its president Florentino Perez in previous years after disagreeing with their plan to join a European Super League in 2021.

In 2025, he said Real had “lost their minds” after the club sent a formal letter of complaint to the Spanish FA over league refereeing.
