Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide and in the United States, and is expected to kill more than 120,000 Americans this year. The main risk factor – smoking – has been known for decades. Yet despite the wide availability of a simple diagnostic test, screening rates are much lower than those for other common cancers.
