Rumor: Data Found in Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Could Hint at Master Quest DLC

One of our main bugbears with Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 – like amazing as is, it’s overall a pretty light experience for those already familiar with the original or 3DS version.

As such, we thought it might be beneficial for Nintendo to include a more difficult mode, whether it’s a simple Hero mode in which enemies deal more damage, or perhaps even a port of the reworked Master Quest mode from the GameCube and 3DS.

Our prayers may soon be answered, as a post from MrCheeze on BlueSky reveals that data found in Ocarina of Time could hint at some sort of Master Quest content. You’ll see in the image below that many of the data rows include “MQ” next to the title “DodongoCavern.”

MrCheeze also provided more information in a follow-up post, stating “A few strings in the exefs also giving some context (HasMQ, IsMQModeExist, NewGameMQ, ReleaseMQ).”

Does this mean Master Quest is on the way? Potentially. We’re not quite ready to invest in it, but it would certainly make sense for Nintendo to include it as part of a DLC expansion, whether free or paid.

These days, almost every first-party Nintendo game includes some sort of post-launch DLC, so we have no reason to believe that Ocarina of Time would be any different. As always, take all of this with a grain of salt.

In a recent interview with IGN, producer Eiji Aonuma said “I don’t think we’ll announce anything specific yet” when asked if Master Quest was being considered for the Switch 2 remake.
