Donald Trump says: An energy ceasefire was agreed.
Kyiv says: Really ? She is ready to join – if Russia does.
Russia says: Very little.
During his daily conference call with journalists, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked whether there had been a ceasefire agreement.
“Contacts continue,” Peskov replied. “As soon as we have something to say about this, we will definitely let you know.”
And what about President Zelensky calls for a 60-day Russian ceasefire allow presidential elections to be held in Ukraine?
“The Kremlin, the president, has already said it several times: we do not want a ceasefire, we want lasting peace, and we are ready to do everything possible for this,” Dmitry Peskov said.
The Kremlin has also repeated this on several occasions. President Putin has shown little appetite for a ceasefire, including a halt to strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Recent statements, speeches and signals of President Putin suggest that as winter approaches, the Kremlin is calculating that a continued campaign of Russian strikes will significantly increase pressure on Ukraine.
