The Buffalo Sabers acquired defensemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in exchange for defenseman Ryan Johnson.
Jones, 29 and a left shooter, has played in 255 career NHL games, including seven most recently with the Penguins to start last season. The 2015 fourth-round pick had three points in four games to start this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL). He provides additional depth at the position with Rasmus Dahlin day-to-day due to an upper-body injury.
Laatsch, 24, played 10 games in the AHL last season. The left-hander was a seventh-round pick in 2021 and played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin.
Johnson leaves the organization after four professional seasons, including 47 games in the NHL. He was originally a first-round pick of the Sabers in 2019.
