Sandra Hüller joins ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in cameo role

Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller will make an appearance in Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday.”

News of Hüller’s top-secret role comes as directors Anthony and Joe Russo are in post-production on the project, ahead of its December 18 release date. The superhero film is already packed with award-winning actors and major movie stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum, as well as other cast members from “Black Panther,” “Thunderbolts,” “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men.” The film also features the highly anticipated returns of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, taking on the villain role in place of Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Little has been revealed about the plot of “Avengers: Doomsday,” except that Downey’s Doctor Doom represents the superhero’s most dangerous foe yet. Rumors about Hüller’s involvement began swirling a few weeks ago, with some fans speculating that she might be related to Downey’s Doom (perhaps his mother) or that she might play another of the Latvian witches (who wear the colorful dresses that Marvel displayed at this year’s Comic-Con).

The Marvel cameo also marks Hüller’s fifth major feature film of 2026, following “Project Hail Mary” (starring new Marvel superhero Ryan Gosling, who will play Ghost Rider), “Rose,” “Fatherland” and “Digger,” all of which are players in this year’s awards race. In 2024, the German star earned her first Best Actress Oscar nomination for “Anatomy of a Fall,” one of two Best Picture nominees she starred in that year. (The other film was “The Zone of Interest,” which won two Academy Awards, including best international feature film; “Anatomy of a Fall” won the Academy Award for best original screenplay.)

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report Hüller’s involvement. Marvel Studios does not comment on casting.
