Screen Gems Hires YouTube Manager to Manage Genre Label

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced Friday that it has tapped YouTube content partnership veteran Fede Goldenberg to head Screen Gems.

He replaces Ashley Brucks, who has served as president of Screen Gems since 2023. Sony announced today that she will move to a producer role on some upcoming Screen Gems projects, which were not named in today’s release announcing the executive shakeup.

Goldenberg will report to Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, who announced the hire.

The move comes amid a wave of content creator-driven genre hits at the summer box office, with Curry Barker’s ObsessionKane Parsons Behind the scenes and Markiplier Iron lung opening the way. Sony said the change at the top of its genre label marks a new creative strategy, saying it will “expand its long-standing focus on traditional genre films to include theatrical projects from the next generation of digitally native storytellers.”

Goldenberg has developed strong relationships in the content creator space spending the last 15 years at YouTube following stints at MCN like Maker Studios and Fullscreen. Most recently at YouTube, he was responsible for TV and cinema content partnerships, working with studios to build their global presence on the platform. He also helped drive major creator initiatives, including Markiplier’s exclusive digital release of Iron lung.

The most recent versions of Screen Gems were Insidious: Out of the farthest, which grossed $169.5 million worldwide after its mid-August release, and before July’s release Evil Dead: Burn in collaboration with New Line and Ghost House which grossed $72.4 million worldwide.

Brucks came to Screen Gems after a tenure at Paramount that included contributing the original Paranormal activity. She also contributed to relaunching the Shout franchise in 2022, and oversaw A quiet place And A Quiet Place, Part II.
