Selma Blair apologizes to ‘people I disappointed’ after arrest in plane incident

Selma Blair has spoken publicly for the first time since her arrest on assault charges following an incident on a plane earlier this month, apologizing to “the people I disappointed.”

The 54-year-old “Cruel Intentions” star shared a video on Instagram Friday, saying that although her lawyers had advised her not to speak about the affair, she was taking the legal matter “very seriously.”

“To the people that I have disappointed, that I have hurt, that I have frightened, alarmed, I am truly sorry,” Blair said.

In the opening of her video, Blair said, “I know I’ve been silent for a few weeks since October 11, and you deserve to hear from me directly. And I’m sorry it’s taken so long.”

Blair was on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York when she allegedly became “physically violent” and was removed from the plane, New York authorities said at the time. Two flight attendants reported injuries and one was taken to a hospital, the Port Authority said.

The actor was charged with two counts of second-degree assault related to his alleged actions after the robbery. She is accused of kicking a Port Authority police officer who took her to the hospital and a hospital nurse later. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In her video, Blair defended her character, saying it was not in her nature to harm others.

“What I can tell you, however, is very simple, and it is the truest thing I know about myself, and that not a single day in my life have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone,” Blair said.

She thanked those who reached out with love and support.

“It means everything to me and to my son, who is my world, just like Scout, who is fine too,” she said, referring to her service dog.

“So right now, I’m going to take care of my health and my son, and I’m thinking of you all with gratitude and love,” she said as she concluded her video.

Blair revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that attacks healthy cells in the central nervous system, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Blair’s lawyer told the court his actions were the result of a medical emergency, citing diagnoses of multiple sclerosis and Parkinsonism.

At her Oct. 12 arraignment, her attorney, Shawn Barnes, told the judge he did not believe the attack was intentional and that the star had forgotten several doses of medication and also fell and hit her head during the flight.

Blair’s representative separately said in a statement that Blair had “experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.”

The case was adjourned until January 19, the prosecutor’s office said.
