Shane Steichen: Jonathan Taylor is on our football team and has not requested a trade

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor’s future in Indianapolis is under a lot of scrutiny right now, but head coach Shane Steichen said Wednesday that Taylor isn’t looking for an immediate start.

Steichen told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that Taylor did not request a trade following the team’s decision to trade defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson. Receiver Josh Downs reportedly requested an exchange Wednesday and Taylor would likely net the team a rich return to use as part of a rebuilding effort that began with the firing of general manager Chris Ballard last week.

Steichen acknowledged all the chatter, but said he was moving forward with Taylor until further notice.

” These are hypothetical things right now,” Steichen said, via Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. “I know there’s some stuff going around out there, but JT is on our football team.”

Steichen said it’s going to be difficult to continue moving forward despite the upheaval, but it’s “what we committed to” and the next two weeks will determine how drastic the in-season changes will be in Indianapolis.
