Certainly, my Bengals’ bias will show itself here. But I’m curious about the Steelers offense. But not in the “let’s learn more” sense. What interests me more is the “why are you the way you are” variety. Because every time I think they will fail, like when they played Cincinnati, Aaron Rodgers continues to prove me wrong.
Week 6 was a vintage Rodgers game. A few movement in the pocket to extend games. The arrogance of the arms. And of course, the short TD “stat-padding” to increase his total box scores. Rodgers is like Josh Allen on the goal line; he simply prefers to throw the ball rather than run. But the future Hall of Famer is averaging 11th in passing yards per game and is on a four-game streak with two or more touchdowns.
This offense, as much as I hate to admit it, is good for fantasy. And there are several reasons for this.
Success rate compared to expectations: +4.9%, 2nd
Average launch time: 2.63 sec, fastest T-10e
aDOT pass: 6.7, 7th shortest
Midfield Throw Rate: 55.2%, 6th highest
Pittsburgh’s offensive line has one of the best protection units through six weeks. Rodgers has an average pressure time of 2.68 seconds. For reference, the league average is around 2.55. He’s also below average in rushing pressure rate (41.2%; league average at 54.4%). The result was the “Grip It and Rip It Show”, featuring the number 8. However, instead of pushing the ball downfield, Rodgers instead relied on the high percentage of looks in the treasury. But coupled with his pass-catching talent, I get it.
