Sydney Sweeney revealed to be related to Marilyn Monroe

Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are actually ninth cousins, once removed.

The “Euphoria” alum, 29, has often been compared to the late icon, and a new study from MyHeritage shows they are related.

According to the site’s genealogical research, the actresses are related through their fathers. Sweeney’s father, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe’s father, Charles Stanley Gifford, are both descendants of an early settler of Sandwich, Massachusetts named Ezra Perry.

The two blonde bombshells are distantly related, as Perry lived in the 1600s.

Sweeney made his admiration for Monroe – who died in 1962 aged 36 – known. In February, she wore a vintage dress previously worn by the “Some Like It Hot” star to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The Ceil Chapman figure-hugging style features three-quarter length sleeves and ruched details along the waist and sides.

Monroe memorably wore the same form-fitting dress on the April 7, 1952 cover of Life magazine.

Sweeney also previously channeled the Old Hollywood star for the December 2025 premiere of “The Housemaid” in a custom Galia Lahav gown that resembled Monroe’s iconic white halter dress in 1955’s “The Seven Year Itch.”

A month prior, the “Christy” star sported a bold bob styled in soft waves reminiscent of Monroe’s “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” era on the Governors Awards red carpet.

A source told Page Six last month that even Sweeney’s boyfriend, mogul Scooter Braun, thought she was “the modern Marilyn Monroe.”

Braun, 45, is fully supportive of his girlfriend’s risky roles, another source told us in May.

“Scooter has absolutely no problem with Sydney’s more provocative scenes in ‘Euphoria’ or with all the work she does as an actress,” the source said. “He completely understands that this is part of her job and respects how dedicated she is to her craft.”

And just like Monroe, Sweeney is no stranger to controversy thanks to her hyper-sexualized image – the latest being her stripped-down sports betting ad with Novig.

But Sweeney makes no apologies.

She hit back at last month’s backlash by posting even more sultry shots from the ad campaign on Instagram. She also cheekily shared images of several athletes — including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jason Kelce and more — who posed without clothes for various covers of ESPN’s Body Issue on her Instagram Stories.
